Hydrogen water or hydrogen-rich water (also called hydrogen-enriched water) simply means normal water (H2O) that contains dissolved hydrogen gas (H2).

Molecular hydrogen gas, or H2 (g), is the primary form in which hydrogen is found. In other words, two hydrogen atoms (H) are covalently bonded (a type of chemical bond) together as H-H. Because the hydrogen atoms are covalently bonded together, they form a molecule; so, H2 is also referred to as molecular hydrogen. The hydrogen molecule contains two protons and two electrons making it a neutrally-charged molecule. It is a colorless, odorless, tasteless, and non-metallic gas. It is this form of hydrogen that has been shown to exert the wide range of therapeutic effects. Some articles refer to this as “hydrogen-rich water”. It is the smallest molecule in the universe, and this extremely small size and its high lipid solubility allows it to easily diffuse into the subcellular compartments of the mitochondria and other locations.

Based on the existing animal and human studies published so far, generally about 0.5 to 1.6 mg or more of H2 per day is consumed, and for a period of between 4 to 12 weeks, and these doses show statistically significant benefits. Although the effective concentration and timing for some people and some diseases may be lower and/or higher, these doses are simply what have been seen to exert benefits.

So for Allswell Kiyora Hydrogen Rich Water that has a H2 concentration of between 0.8 to 1.2 mg/L, consuming at least 2 cans per day consecutively for a minimum of 4 weeks is recommended for the most optimal results and benefits. However, you should immediately feel the benefits of better energy, better hydration and improved general well-being.

More studies need to be done in this area as anecdotal reports do suggest that there is a dose-dependent effect, meaning the more hydrogen the better or greater the effect. But more importantly is that you cannot get any adverse effects from too much hydrogen in your body as it is natural to the body and will just be exhaled out. Hydrogen water is also Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) by the USFDA, meaning that it is approved for human consumption and not known to cause harm. 

There is no best time to consume hydrogen water in the day. Some people say it is best to drink intensively throughout the morning, others say the afternoon is better, and some say they drink a little before going to bed. Opinions vary, and it is probably best to find out what suits you the best.

You should aim to drink it in as little time as possible, as once the hydrogen water encounters air, the hydrogen will start escaping. This will reduce the efficacy of the hydrogen water. You can choose to pour it into a cup or any other container of your choice before drinking, but it should still be consumed in as little time as possible.

Hydrogen water can be consumed either cold (from the refrigerator), ambient (room temperature) or warm. If you prefer it warm, please do not boil the water directly as the hydrogen will escape. It is best to heat up the hydrogen water can in a hot water bath.

There is no age limit for drinking hydrogen water.  Due to its anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, hydrogen water is ideal for the elderly to help reduce oxidative stress, which is the cause of most diseases and illnesses.

Hydrogen dissolution refers to the concentration of hydrogen dissolved in water. It is commonly measured in terms of parts per million (ppm) or mg/L. The saturation concentration of hydrogen is 1.6 ppm under normal atmospheric condition. Although the hydrogen dissolution may be higher for other brands in aluminium pouch packaging with spouts, hydrogen is lost continuously through the spout. The retention of hydrogen in an aluminium can packaging is much better due to the double seaming at the lids.
